Science Workshops

Our KS2 children had a great opportunity last week to take part in science learning activities throughout the week. The activities have been led by Sphere Science. This opportunity for partnership working was facilitated and funded through IET. As a school we would like to thank Mrs Graham (Aravis, Tyrion and Bastian’s mum) who arranged the workshops through her work as School Liaison Officer for the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Below is a glimpse of what our Year Five children did during their science workshop.

The children were given the opportunity to take part in five different activities related to the topic of Space. To start, the children used different coloured fairy lights to identify and create their own constellations, looking for patterns within the colours. The children enjoyed this especially coming up with a name for their constellation. Following this, the children went on to take part in four different activities: investigating shadow length, identifying the phases of the moon, creating a constellation tracker and a mini-planetarium. Year 5 learnt how shadows change throughout the day, looking at when they are longer and shorter, drawing and labelling the different times. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop as it gave them a real insight into our themed learning, bringing some hard concepts to life.
